Making a Difference for Young Carers in Bolton

We were delighted to see our Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. John Porter, accompanied by our Provincial Grand Charity Steward, W.Bro. T Stewart Mills, present a donation on behalf of the East Lancashire Mark Benevolent Fund to the Bolton Lads and Girls Club this week. The funds will help purchase much-needed kitchen utensils and drawing implements for the Club’s Young Carers group – young people who take on caring roles at home and visit the Club for well-earned respite, support, and friendship.

Sarah Randall, Director of Children and Young People at the BLGC, gave us a tour and showed us the fantastic facilities they’ve setup for the children and young people who come to the club sometimes up to 3-4 times per week. The club really is a lifeline for a lot of parents and their children.

Founded in 1889, the Bolton Lads and Girls Club is one of the largest youth centres in the UK, welcoming thousands of children and young people each year. The Club offers a safe and inspiring place for ages 8 to 19 (and up to 21 for those with disabilities), providing a huge range of opportunities – from sports and creative activities to mental health support, mentoring, and life skills sessions. Their Young Carers service gives those with caring responsibilities a chance to take a break, build confidence, and simply be children for a while.

It’s a privilege to support an organisation making such a positive impact in our community and helping young people thrive.
